Good rains welcomed

The wide spread and good rain over large areas in our country is most welcome, Mr Louis Meintjes, President of TAU SA said. However, he pointed out that the impact of the drought in many sectors of agriculture is such that there is no mention of complete recovery. It will probably require a few years before the previous levels of production could be achieved again.

The reliance and trust of many farmers in their Creator is a prominent characteristic of those facing the consequences of drought and in this regard TAU SA wishes to record its’ appreciation to the many churches as well as fellow farmers for their prayers and support during these trying times. The power of prayer was once again proven beyond doubt and it is still appreciated by many farmers.

Mr Meintjes also expressed his sincere appreciation for donations received from many sources to help farmers in need.Without neglecting many others, TAU SA wishes to extend its appreciation in particular to the Solidarity movement who through Helping Hand, AfriForum and Solidarity which made several thousand Rand available which has now been distributed  to farmers across the land.

Teamwork was also high on the agenda and the efforts of Mr HenkSchutte of Makoppa, who made a thousand bales of fodder available is worth mentioning.Several other role players also made it possible to transport fodder to several farmers in Stella, SchweizerReneke and Coligny. We wish to  thank Obaro,NWK, Farmers in Need, Agri Limpopo, CVO Transport who made the transport of fodder possible.

The way in which farmers also reached across district- and provincial borders to help fellow farmers is most heart warming.

Mr Meintjes emphasized that the situation is far from being stabilised and that it is trusted that continued efforts by all role players will be required to keep many farmers in production.
