RPO welcomes speedy action on
Brazilian meat imports
The national Red Meat Producers’ Organisation of South Africa (RPO) congratulates the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for their speedy and effective actions regarding the meat scandal in Brazil.
The RPO considers the Department and more specifically the Directorate : Veterinary Services as an important partner of the RPO in ensuring safe meat and meat products to the South African consumer. It is pleasing that the veterinary authorities of both countries are working well together and they obviously also communicate effectively with each other. It is further pleasing that despite the cessation of meat imports from certain meat processors in Brazil, the Department has instructed all meat imports from Brazil to be tested at the port of entry.
