CO-OPERATION AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE RPO AND PLAASMEDIA

The National RPO is excited to announce that, during its last Executive Council meeting, a decision was taken to sign a co-operation agreement with Plaasmedia.

In short, this agreement entails that the RPO will have a number of pages at its disposal in each issue of Veeplaas and Stockfarm in which important information will be conveyed. Some of the content will be written by Plaasmedia (as is already the case with RPO related articles in these magazine titles) and there will also be a contribution from the RPO itself.

As of now, all members of the RPO will receive the two magazines free of charge, whether in online form (via Whatsapp) or in printed format. The online versions are free of charge and will be sent to members via the official RPO Whatsapp groups. In the case of the printed version, members who wish to receive the physical magazine will have to pay only the delivery fee. The various options available in this regard will be communicated to members shortly.

Why this step?

There are numerous benefits to this agreement: Both Veeplaas and Stockfarm have well-established audiences (currently approximately 12 000 readers per magazine title) in the red meat value chain (and other livestock value chains); both magazines already provide information regarding good practices that the RPO wishes to convey to its members; both magazines already carry news and feedback on various events in which the RPO is involved or present at, such as congresses. In a nutshell, the RPO is simply tapping into what is already being done, but with the benefit of additional exposure on the various other platforms offered by Plaasmedia to its clients and project partners.

While a 360-degree offer has become the norm in the media world, the fact is that a major portion of the agricultural readership still prefers to receive their reading material in printed format – better so if it involves a high-quality glossy magazine that does not only hold its content, but also its readers, in high regard.

Why Plaasmedia?

Plaasmedia was the logical choice in this regard, as their main goal is to supply the agricultural industry with good technical information. Their content steers clear of sensationalism and focusses on good practices.

Since their inception in 2010 and 2011, Veeplaas and Stockfarm have been serving red meat producers in South Africa, whether they are commercial producers or aspiring to become commercial producers. In a time in which the advertising pool is shrinking and many companies are unsure whether they should be advertising in the printed or digital media, or both, Plaasmedia has been able to find a balance in this regard.

Both magazine titles have been able to maintain their print distribution in the last couple of years and have even showed a growth in numbers. In addition, there has been significant progress in growing both titles’ online distribution to where it can now boast a good balance of printed and online distribution, supported by a presence at various events, and on radio, YouTube, internet and social media. The RPO finds this presence and ability to give the organisation greater exposure, very attractive.

Effective date of agreement

The agreement between Plaasmedia and the RPO is in the form of a co-operation agreement and both magazines will remain independent and the property of Plaasmedia. The agreement officially becomes effective with the August 2024 issues of Veeplaas and Stockfarm, but because it is important to clarify and address any distribution issues that may crop up, members can expect to already start receiving the June and/or July issues on the various RPO Whatsapp groups.
