AKTIWITEITE IN NAMIBIESE VEEBEDRYF TEL OP
Die vee- en vleisbedryf van Namibië het ‘n toename in mark-aktiwiteite tydens die eerste kwartaal van 2024 ervaar, met die beesbedryf wat ‘n merkwaardige groeikoers van 47,9% bereik het.
Die skaap-, bok- en varkbedrywe het ook groeikoerse van meer as 10% bereik. Die groei in die beessektor het ‘n positiewe uitwerking op beesvleisproduksie gehad en gelei tot ‘n verdubbeling in beesvleisuitvoere. Die beperkte reënval wat tydens die eerste kwartaal ervaar is, tesame met die hoë insetkostes, hou steeds ‘n bedreiging vir die sektor in. Die sektor behoort onder groot druk te bly soos wat boere voorbereidings tref vir die droër toestande wat vir die res van die seisoen verwag word.
Bees-sektor
Tydens die eerste kwartaal van 2024 is altesaam 86 693 beeste oor al die bemarkingskanale bemark. Hiervan is 57 562 lewendig op die hoef na SAOG-buurlande uitgevoer, 21 525 is by plaaslike A-klas-abattoirs geslag en 7 879 is landswyd by verskeie B- en C-klas-abattoirs geslag wat by die Lewendehawe- en Lewendehaweprodukteraad van Namibië geregistreer is. Dit bring die totale groei van die beessektor op 47. 9% te staan teenoor die 58 607 wat tydens dieselfde kwartaal in 2023 bemark is.
Skaap-sektor
Die sektor het ‘n toename van 15.7% in aktiwiteite aangeteken, wat deur lewendige uitvoere en slagtings by A-klas-abattoirs gelei is. Lewendige uitvoere het met 29.3% gegroei vanaf 118 853 skape in die eerste kwartaal van 2023 tot 153 713 skape in 2024.

INCREASED ACTIVITIES IN NAMIBIAN LIVESTOCK INDUSTRY
The livestock and meat industry of Namibia witnessed an increase in marketing activities during the first quarter of 2024, with the cattle sector recording a remarkable growth rate of 47.9%.
Similarly, the sheep, goat and pig sectors all saw growth rates surpassing 10%. The growth in the cattle sector positively affected beef production, leading to a doubling of beef exports. The limited rainfall received during the period under review coupled with high input costs continue threatening the sustainability of the sector. The sector is expected to remain under severe pressure as farmers prepare for drier conditions for the reminder of the season.
Cattle sector
During the first quarter of 2024, a total of 86 693 cattle were marketed across all marketing channels. Of this total, 57 562 were exported live on hoof to neighbouring SADC member states, 21 525 heads were slaughtered at local A-class abattoirs and 7 879 heads were slaughtered at various Livestock and Livestock Products Board of Namibia-registered B & C class abattoirs nationwide. This brings the growth of the cattle sector up by 47. 9% from 58 607 heads marketed during the same quarter of 2023.
Sheep sector
The sector recorded an increase in activity of 15.7% led by live exports and slaughtering at A-class abattoirs. Live exports increased by 29.3% growing from 118 853 heads in the first quarter of 2023 to 153 713 heads in 2024.
