NAMIBIESE BOERE MAAK REG VIR ‘N DROOGTE
Die gebrek aan voldoende reënval in sommige dele van die land het kommer onder Namibiese boere laat onstaan, wat daartoe gelei het dat boere besig is met voorbereidings vir ‘n droogte gedurende die 2024-periode.
Dié onsekerheid het tydens Februarie 2024 tot hoë bemarkingsyfers gelei.
Bees-sektor
Jaar-tot-datum beesbemarking het met 49.0% gestyg, met 27 983 beeste wat tydens Ferbruarie 2024 bemark is. Lewendige uitvoere het ‘n aansienlike prestasie behaal en 21 608 beeste is uitgevoer weens die relatiewe beter speenkalfpryse in Suid-Arika. Pryse van speenkalwers en tollies het jaar-op-jaar gedaal en in Februarie ‘n gemiddeld van onderskeidelik N$25.25/kg en N$20.00/kg bereik. Die gemiddelde prys van alle grade-beesvleis het relatief stabiel gebly vergeleke met sy Suid-Afrikaanse eweknie. Die gemiddelde prys van alle grade-beesvleis het egter met N$3.51/kg gedaal vanaf die Februarie 2023-vlak en het in Februarie 2024 ‘n gemiddeld van N$58.43/kg bereik.

Meer as die helfte van beesvleis-uitvoere wat in Februarie 2024 aangeteken is het na die Europese Unie gegaan, terwyl die oorblywende gedeelte na Brittanje, Noorweë, Suid-Afrika en Angola uitgevoer is.
Skaap-sektor
Die bemarking van skape het jaar-tot-datum met 50.6% gestyg. Die toename in skaapgetalle was daarvoor verantwoordelik dat slag-aktiwiteite en lewendige uitvoere met onderskeidelik 5.8% en 44.1% verbeter het.
Die voorsiening van skape aan die Noord-Kaap het stewig gebly en het sedert Februarie 2024 met 46.0% toegeneem weens die relatiewe hoër produsentepryse wat deur Suid-Afrikaanse abattoirs aangebied word. Jaar-tot-datum uitvoere van lam en skaap het weens goeie slag-aktiwiteite met 118.3% gegroei. Aan die ander kant het gemiddelde pryse van alle skaapkarkase tot N$52.58/kg gedaal vanaf die N$56.79/kg wat in Februarie 2023 aangeteken is.
NAMIBIAN FARMERS PREPARING FOR DROUGHT
The lack of adequate rainfall in some parts of the country has caused concerns among Namibian farmers, which has subsequently resulted in famers preparing for drought during the 2024 period.
The uncertainty has resulted in high marketing numbers during February 2024.
Cattle sector
Year-to-date cattle marketing has increased by 49.0% with 27 983 cattle marketed during February 2024. Live cattle exports posted a substantial performance, recording 21 608 head exported due to relatively better weaner prices in South Africa. Year-on-year, weaner prices and tollies producer prices declined and averaged N$25.25/kg and N$20.00/kg in February 2024, respectively. The beef all-grade average price remained relatively stable compared to its South African counterpart. However, year-on-year, the beef all-grade average price declined by N$3.51/kg from the February 2023 level and averaged N$58.43/kg in February 2024.
Year-to-date beef imports dipped by 74.6%. On the other hand, beef exports grew by 78.6% on account of good slaughter activity by export-approved abattoirs. More than half of beef exports recorded in February 2024 went to the EU; whereas the remainder went to the UK, Norway, South Africa and Angola.
Sheep sector
Marketing of sheep increased by 50.6%, year-to-date. The increase in sheep numbers has seen slaughter activity and live exports improve by 5.8% and 44.1%, respectively.
The supply of sheep to the Northern Cape remained strong and increased by 46.0% during February 2024, due to relatively higher producer prices offered by South African abattoirs. Year-to-date export of lamb and mutton grew by 118.3% due to good slaughter activity. On the other hand, sheep all-grade average carcass prices dropped to N$52.58/kg from N$56.79/kg recorded in February 2023.
