SOUTH AFRICA’S LARGEST CT SCANNER FOR VETERINARY USE UNVEILED

South Africa’s veterinary science has marked a significant milestone with the unveiling of the country’s largest CT scanner at the University of Pretoria’s Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital (OVAH), a development poised to transform large animal diagnostics and research.

This technological advancement, funded by a generous donation of R13 million, enables unprecedented imaging capabilities for animals as large as lions and buffaloes, offering a new horizon in veterinary medicine.

The introduction of this state-of-the-art CT scanner at OVAH represents a leap forward in veterinary diagnostics. According to Dr Nicolene Hoepner, a veterinary radiologist at the facility, this equipment not only elevates the standard of patient care but also paves the way for innovative research opportunities.

The ability to perform detailed scans of large animals’ limbs, heads, and necks allows for more accurate diagnoses, tailored treatment plans, and the potential for groundbreaking studies in animal health.
